shell variable not following through with sudo
Good morning..

ok, so I have 2 desktops that are supposed to be built VERY similar. They both have solaris 10 installed on them. I have a specific user that is trying to pass variables through using sudo. He already has this variable set..

tmp=/home/useraccount/tmp

However when he does:

sudo -u devwww bash

he loses the $tmp variable. On the 2nd desktop, this works and he retains the $tmp variable. These are both using /usr/bin/bash

sudo doesn't pass user variables by default. You have to check /etc/sudoers for the following settings: env_reset and env_keep. Look for all lines in the sudoers file beginning with 'Defaults'. Maybe one host has 'env_reset' while the other does not.

Preserving variable in script run with sudo

In a nutshell, I want $USER to reflect my user ID in a script run with sudo. I'm working with OSX in case that makes a difference. If I 'sudo echo $USER', I get my user ID.
