If its not gonna be a Live Upgrade, then its called migration..
You have to install Solaris 10. Create similar partitions. Install your apps and test whether it works. You should understand that services are managed using SMF.
One thing I forgot to mention that currently there is no load (0 users ) on this solaris machine. I want the old OS as a temp backup for some time . In due course I wish to move to OS 10 only .
I think this is a favourable factor for me . Please share ur isights on this . I am going through the links given by u.
You can perform your OS backup by doing this
df -k <- to check which of your filesystem has biggest available space for your OS
cd /to_spacious_filesystem_dir
ufsdump 0f `hostname`.root.dump /
