Solaris & Oracle
, Setup max shared memory and no semaphores as per the Oracle documentation.
, Place ALL database files on 1 volume spanning as many disks as you have. Place online redo logs on a Raid 1/10 vol. Place archive redo logs on another Raid1/10 vol.
, Mount the database files volume with forcedirectio and set the Oracle parameter FILESYSTEMIO_OPTIONS = setall
, Follow OFA (Oracle Optimal Architecture Guidelines) - use google.
, Use LMT's locally managed tablespaces everywhere .
, Use automatic UNDO, and ASSM (Automatic Shared Memory Management) - via 1 oracle parameter SGA_TARGET. Also set PGA_TARGET an mimimum values for the Shared Pool and Buffer Cache.
, Use an SPFILE
, Use the standard Oracel dbconsole, its excellent for ad-hoc monitoring.
, Always use Archive Logging if the database is important.
, Use RMAN, its fast and easy to use.
