regarding ps command

Hi all,
iam using solaris 8 SPARC.
when i tried to use ps command it shows
"ps: Cannot read /usr/lib/sparcv9/ld.so.1
Killed"

but the file exists in that path.Other commands are working like ls,cp etc.
Also when i use the find / -name ld.so.1
it displays
/usr/lib/sparcv9/ld.so.1
/usr/lib/ld.so.1
/etc/lib/ld.so.1
It doesnt shows in these dir /lib/sparcv9 and /lib .But actually this fiel is present in that path also.

Please Can anyone help me on this to solve this issue its urgent.

Thanks,
Shanmuga

No idea buddy, this kind of library error is very general it could mean something corrupted or it could be a false alarm and mean nothing. You could try few things, put /usr/lib into your search path and try to see if it improve

PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib:.
export $PATH

or you could try other ps commands on solaris 8 to see if any of them also throwing the same error.

[root]# cd /usr
[root]# find . -name ps -print

./share/lib/terminfo/p/ps
./bin/sparcv7/ps
./bin/ps
./bin/sparcv9/ps
./ucb/sparcv7/ps
./ucb/ps
./ucb/sparcv9/ps

or if you have other solaris 8 boxes that don't have this problem, compare file sizes, was anything patched recently?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply..
How to check which patch is installed on that machine...
Suppose if we installed any latest patch of that operating system , then it will work?
Give me some idea..

Thanks,
Shnamuga

To look at your server kernel revision -
uname -a

will list something like Generic_117350-23

showrev -p will give long long list but it will be meaningless to you.

You could try patching but I dunno whether it will resolve your issue or not, Personally I will not do any patching on my server until I'm really sure there's a chance it will really solve the problem.

But if you want to try patching logon to sunsolve knowledgebase to search up your problem first.
