Hi,
Please tell me the procedure to take root backup of a Solaris server.

the solution depends on the configuration of your server... but "ufsdump" or "flar" might be your freinds. please read the manpages and try to figure out the right way for you. if you have a second disk in your system you can also use liveupgrade (also read "man lucreate") as a nice way to backup your system.

But how can i take root backup to SAN imstead of tape

everything is in the manpages... for "ufsdump" look at the option "f".

f dump_file Dump file. Use dump_file as the file
to dump to, instead of /dev/rmt/0.
If dump_file is specified as -, dump
to standard output.

But how can i view the backup file and how i can restore it?

for restore use "ufsrestore" as allways read the manpage for more infos.
