ifspeed

hello,

some of my machines have ifspeed 100 while others have 100000000.

can this difference due only to the unit used (How to find out the unit used for ifspeed)

any drawback in changing the ifspeed using ndd?

thanks

Ifspeed should be in bits per second per standard. It looks like some old drivers are using Mbps instead. A simple test can sort out these ones. 100 bps is unlikely to be real nowadays.

so you suspect that the NIC driver is outdated on the machines that display 100 for ifspeed?

Can I change 100 to 100000000 on these machines (how to? ndd?) or should I change the NIC card?

How to see the NIC card details on the machine?

I am using solaris 10 x86

many thanks

The driver can be old without being outdated.

I guess the driver writers do not want to change the displayed value to avoid compatibility issues with application relying on its speed to be displayed in Mbps.

thanks for your assistance.
So I understand from you that the difference comes from the driver version.

How to get this version if I am using Solaris 10 x86?

thanks

Not the driver version but the driver code. I'm afraid there is no way but (quite simple) heuristics to figure out what unit is used.
