automountd [24] : Mount of /export/home problem

Hi Guys,

Thanks for taking the time to read the problem i having outlined below:

Before i go into the problem can you please tell me what the following means?
a. "dt" stands for and what does it means?

Configuration Below:
1x Unix Server
2x Unix Terminals

(both systems are running sun solaris)

Problem:

At the Unix Server, i have setup the NIS user templates and all the neccessary setting required. Then i setup the NIS user account using SMC, with username = tlee, then ensure that the setup folder /export/home is setup to mount automatically.

At the Unix Terminal, i have also setup the necesary settings but when i login at CDE. A pop up message said "Unable to access home directory. Click ok to start a failsafe session or cancel to restart login."

I continue to login and it opens ok. I opened a terminal window, it does not have the "/export/home/tlee"

There after, i have rebooted all the unix server and terminal. Another error came up after rebooted the unix server. The error states "automountd [24] : Mount of /export/home/. DtDirDataType on /home/. DtDirDataType : No such file or directory"

What does this error means?

Please suggest how i can fix this?

Thanks

dt means desktop and is a common prefix for CDE related stuff, like k for KDE, x for X11, g for gnome.

It's not /export/home but /export/home/tlee that should be mounted on /home/tlee.

Do you mean you didn't create /export/home/tlee previously ?

Are you sure there is a space after the dots ?

Hello

Dear Tlee,

I have some questions to help solving your problem if it is still there.

1. are you familiar with NIS configuration ?
2. can you post /etc/auto_home from server and client and /etc/auto_master from server ?
3. is NFS enabled (client & server) ?
4. What is your OS and its version ?

Regards

Solution

Thanks guys,

I realised that i had a problem with renaming one of the boot up files. I incorrectly re-name to a lowercase "s" instead of a upper case "S" for the following file.

The file was under the following directory:

mv noS74autofs S74autofs
/etc/rc2.d/S74autofs

This file is used at startup to boot up the auto mount.

Hope this help anyone having a problem as me.
