ftp account locking

I need some help trying to figure out why our ftp account keeps getting locked with no manual intervention. We have end of day processes that run nightly and the last thing it does is ftp files to a server. Everyonce in a while the script fails because the account has been locked. How could this happen? There's no one logging in during the night so it can't be a manual thing and the logs don't say much.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you create a locked down account just for the automated ftp night processing or are you using a users account?

ftp account locking

thanks for your reply.

The user account and password are embedded in a script and the nightly scripts execute them. we also have adhoc requests during the day for ftp'ing files but again its all done through scripts.
More troubling is when the account locks in the middle of the night since noone is requesting anything just scripts running automatically.

the question is refering to the account as configured on the target box, is it a normal user account, does it have a password that expires?

Does it have a limited number of logins?

ftp account locking

Thanks for your help.

The issue was resolved by another tech here. There was a hardcoded password and ID and the password was left blank therefore when trying to connect to the site it was causing a lockout.

You can use ftppwd command This command helps for getting the password from the server.
Usually It is not good practice to hardcode password in the script.
You can explore the ways of using ftppwd command.

Thanks,
