Try 'truss'ing the process - and see if that yields anything
Code:
truss -wall -rall -vall -f lpstat

lpstat gives segmentation coredump error

can u explain what it will do

truss -wall -rall -vall -f lpstat

man truss Smilie
Code:
truss - trace system calls and signals

So this is safe to do. You'll need to be root though...

Could you save it to a file and post the last 50 lines or so?

Code:
truss -wall -rall -vall -f -o /path/to/outputfile lpstat
