Minimum RAM for solaris 10 installation

Hello,
This is my first post to this forum.

Recently I tried to install sun solaris 10 on my home pc.
But the installation failed due to not enough RAM.
I'm quite familiar with linux installation but this was my first with solaris.

Usually in these cases I would just install the bare minimum installation (without gui) in linux...but I'm not able to do this with solaris.

I have 256 MB RAM.
I know that's very less but I don't use my home pc for heavy duty stuff.
I use it only for some C development and shell scripting...
So how can I do it???

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Ravinandan

A 256 RAM is sufficient to install the Solaris without GUI....
mainly due consider the platform (architecture type )

Were you using the DVD installation image?

Try using the set of CD-ROM images downloadable from sun.

I have successfully installed Sol10 on a Compaq Armada with 192 megabytes.

If no luck there, then step down to Solaris 9.

Yes..I'm using DVD installation image

I can't download 3.5 GB once more... Bandwidth is a issue for me.
Can I use the DVD to convert to cd images....

I know it can be done in RHEL and fedora...
Is this possible in solaris???

No, the idea is to use an earlier version of Sol10.

Ok...
I just wanted to get a taste of Open Solaris.
If it's not possible to install the latest release then bad luck for meSmilie

I have intel pentium 3 with 256 MB RAM.
Can I install solaris 9 on it.

Certainly - of course check the hardware compatibility list.
