Solaris

I have simply downloaded a file to my local folder, made one small change and uploaded it back, ever since it will not run the file.
I have now uploaded the original, unchanged file, which still doesn;t work.
Evertime it is run ot says bash: ./nrcardprint: No such file or directory
The permissions are ok, set to rwxr - xr - r.
Please help, frustrating the hell out of me now.
I have since downloaded another file, which worked, renamed it then uploaded it. . . surprise surprise, this doesn't work now either. Could there be a problem with FTP (I use Smart FTP).

You just need to invoke :
./script-name
or
bash scriptname
since you have assured that the file has executable permissions set.
Actually, if you still running into troubles, can you please post the output of "ls -la"

When I invoke it, it still says the same error:
sunrev aisdba :: TS >./nrcardprint
bash: ./nrcardprint: No such file or directory
sunrev aisdba :: TS >

As you can see, it will list the file, but can not find it to run.

Let me guess, you download the file to a Windows machine and used some windows editor such as notepad.exe to make the changes, then put it back again?

If this is the case you may now have carriage return characters in your file that would upset the interpretation.

I have opened the file in vi, checked it all over and saved it as a new filename nrcardprint1

I then changed the permissions to execute, and ..... still produces same error message 'no such file or directory:

sunrev aisdba :: TS >./nrcardprint1
bash: ./nrcardprint1: No such file or directory

as stated earlier you probably have dos chars in it.

do cat -vets and you will see them.

use unix2dos to get rid of them

But surely if there was non char characters in the script it would still be able to see the file, but just not interpret properly?

At the moment it still says the file is missing.

In the meantime I will try your previous advice.
