Root Password on SMC

Hello, I am running Solaris 10 on a SunBlade 150 Workstation. This is a standalone workstation used to administer other Unix boxes on a production LAN.

I reloaded my box over the weekend and am using the SMC to apply some system configuration settings. When I go into certain sub-menus, it wants the system's root password to proceed. When prompted, I enter the password and am told that I entered it incorrectly. I try again, same message. I log out of the machine and log back in and I'm apparently using the correct root password. I lock my screen and use the root password to unlock it with no problems. The SMC is the only utility on the system that gripes that I'm not using the correct root password. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this?

Thank you.

set the root password to an easy value, maybe "sun" and try smc again....

Are you sure you're using the correct root password?

It may be that you are being asked for the root password for the remote machine.

Just out of interest.
Why would you want to use smc ?
