things to include in a flash archive

I am making a flash archive to use as a base to lay down on all incoming servers.

I am wondering about Sun Explorer and Sun CST.

Is it ok to install these (but not configure them) on my source machine and create the archive?

Im just not sure if it would cause problems down the line, like if either of these apps puts machine specific info into any of its config files which would cause problems if two machines on the same network had the flash archive installed on them.

Basically, should i put explorer and CST into a flash archive? or should I install those manually after the base flash image has been laid down.

Does anyone have any good flash archive best practices that I might be able to see?

hi,

i've never used CST, but with the explorer it's possible. If a software supports to be installed, but not being activated or configured by pkgadd, it's no problem.
I've installed 6 Veritas Clusters with flasharchives last month. inside the flasharchive was a fully patched Solaris 9 Installation with the Sun EIS configuration, the explorer, the SFS, SunVTS, VCS, VxVM, VxFS and the EMC PowerPath packages. I've also included the oracle-installation-binaries, but not installed just the installation-data in a directory.
with that flasharchive it was possible to finish the basic installation within 30 minutes.

regards pressy

flash archives

Hmm, See I installed SunVTS, CEDiag, explorer, CST,ncurses, and screen.

Are you saying I shouldnt install them in the flash archive? just leave the packages on the disk and install them once the flash archive has been laid down?

What do you mean by this? It's ok to install a scripted based install but not something using pkgadd?

i just haven't installed the oracle-database, every else was installed.

with the installation i mean the pkgadd. you can install the packages from the explorer, but you don't need to configure the explorer (think it was explorer -g) or like in Veritas, you can install the packages but to activate and to configure you need to run "vxinstall" after the package installtion... thinks like VTS, screen or some other programs don't need a configuration, they are never a problem..
