Question Solaris to Redhat...

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any posts and for reading...

... ok I am trying to push out an install of a veritas client from a solaris box to a redhat box and its not working. The guide says make sure that the redhat box is in the .rhost file and the /etc/host file on the solaris box which it is. On the Redhat box end I have only got a /etc/host file which I have put the solaris details into. Anyhow I can do an rlogin from redhat to solaris but not the other way, I think this is why my push isn't happening. Anyone any ideas?

Thanks again for reading and any posts...

you may need to uptate either your securetty settings, or make rhost authentication sufficient in your pam configuration file(s)

Error

Do you think this document might of use:

http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/l...pam-rexec.html

I think its the redhat box end thats the problem... Sounds like your going along the right lines though...

Question

I think the problem is that in the rhosts file in the root directory I have the solaris (and a few other) but the box isn't letting root users of other boxes do a rlogin. Any ideas?

My rhosts file has:

dns root

dns representing the server I want to have access to the box.

THanks again,

Have you checked either of the two files I metioned? root can only rsh/rlogin on a secure tty unless yuo edit the pam confiuguration file for rsh/rlogin.

I figured another way round this. I didn't have to use Rlogin or the other services. I used vsftpd instead, however I temporarly enabled root to have access whilst put the files across for the veritas client. I then disabled the service and root access. Fortunately the network I was using is pretty much closed.

Anyhow thanks for all replies in advance, I was being told that I would have to use rlogin, but I ended up reading round my subject, and found this other method.

I was also told that for auditing purposes (its for an oracle production database) I couldn't alter the securetty file amoungst a few others that where mentioned.

THanks again,

Just incase anyone wants to know, you can push an install manually by using the install_cleint_files script in /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/ providing that you have ftp access so you don't have to mount your CD drive to box (which in my case would have been very very very slow (I am at least 5,000 miles away from the server I was trying to push the client to!)).
