How you created and enabled the samba users on the server?
# 3

Thanks, for your prompt reply and hope you can help me. I rcp'd the smbpasswd file from the old unix machine that I built several years back to the new one. I have done it like that befare and it worked. Yes, there are users already created on the machine. all the users also have the same unix username and uid on the unix box as required by samba

Just out of curiosity, since you are using swat and it's easy to do.

Turn off encrypted password and see if it works.

The reason I am suggesting this is because you say the files came from an old machine, where it may not have been active.

If that works then it is bacuse the windows machines are sending plain text passwords. If this does not work, then try creating a new test user and set the password and enable it an see if you can connect using that user. If that works then it means that either your users have become disabled somewhere in the process or that the old files are not compatible with the new version of samba (unlikely).
