Question Installing Solaris 10 (x86)
I tried installing Solaris 10 (x86) 01/06 on a VMWARE machine.
Installation went on pretty smoothly for CD 1 but I seem to have problem installing the rest of the CDs.

I have a few questions to ask:
After installing CD 1, I was prompted to reboot, when the system rebooted, I was back at the Solaris installation GUI installer, it prompted me if I wanted to install software 2.
Is Software 2 = CD 2?
I inserted the CD 2 but the installer just tells me that it is the incorrect CD, like wise for CD 3 and 4.

Hi,
I never tried your method. I use dvd.
But I think what Godmode trying to say is that, the cdrom contains an 'installer' file and you should use it. Launch the file by browsing to your cdrom either on your desktop shortcut or use command:
$ cd /cdrom/cdrom0
$ ./installer

Installing Solaris x86 through an external DVD drive through the USB port...

Is there a way to install Solaris 10 x86 with an external DVD drive that connects through the USB port? I would think I would run GRUB off of a floppy disk and somehow use that to make it look to the USB port to boot from but I don't know how to do that. Can anyone help me out? (1 Reply)
