backup

hello Guro's,

I was surprised to our new machine it came to our office without any documentation at all, I am now responsible to this machine so in case disaster will happen i can easily restore form tapes so I have plan to backup the OS, OS configurations and including the data that inside the disk but i cannot proceed because I'm not so knowledgable in this environment. I need your help and expertise on how to back-up the os and other configuration thru media/tape.

By the way the machine is:
SUN OS 8
Sun 5.8 Generic_108528-29 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-4

thanks in advance.

Documentation can be found on-line at docs.sun.com

You can then search for specific needs - such as backup

eykyn17,

I sugest that you perform ufsdump periodically (perhaps daily) to all your filesystems to a tape device. If you have some kind of aplications running on that machine you should stop them during the backup and in the end restart them to get some consistent data on your backup. If you want to try another solution, you could read something about Flash archives.

Regards.
