There is not much that can be learned from truss output in a case like this. No program should ever execute an illegal instruction. When one does, it means the program in question has a bug. If this program usually works ok and this illegal instruction is a rare exception, my guess would be that the program was fed some really screwy data. The program is attempting to process data that it should reject. So I would check the program's input looking for anything really strange.

I run it like so

./tcpserver -- then says following below

Code:
*** TCP Server post-init runtime is up and running
*** TCP/IP Example Server is up and running
*** Now listening for a player...
Segmentation Fault - core dumped

I updated the debug log in last post also to show env and process's

That does not help because Per's explanation is still true. That you're getting "illegal instruction" means this program has a bug.

The program expects a terminal, so you should give it a terminal. Run it on a login console or in an xterm window! Run the command tty to verify.

i did tty and out put is /dev/pts/3

He's not getting SIGILL, he's getting SIGSEGV, at the address 0x201138F4. Given the brk() values posted right before that SIGSEGV, that looks like someone's overrunning his heap - by exactly 512 MB.

A couple of other issues, too:

1. Use of MAP_NORESERVE in mmap() calls.
Why? So if your process does get swapped out, you crash when swapped back in? If you're lucky, because else you run with corrupt data. Or your process crashes when swap space runs out....

2. open("", O_RDWR|O_CREAT) Err #2 ENOENT
Is this error properly handled? It looks like open() is being passed an empty string.

3. mmap() of the calling binary (./tcpserver).
What in the world is this thing doing, mmap()'ing itself read/write for the first 1080 bytes of the binary executable? I wouldn't doubt getting a SIGILL after *that*.
