I'm trying to get the servers up, but I am having a hard time just trying to get in the system and configure it.
I am connecting to the Sun 240,220 servers via the Serial Connection.
Watching the server come up after it starts to come up and does all the post message the screen remains blank.. when I hit
it knocks me to the ALOM... and I don't know the password for the ALOM, it was never configured. Is there a default password for ALOMS?
Also how do I switch back to the console.. I know when I am logged in
. But I am not even logged in..
There is no VGA output to see what is going on, and I am using a putty client on windows 7 64bit.
I can not log in from the network.. "SSH is refused.."
I appreciate if any one has faced similar problems and can give me some pointers..
If the service processor password has never been configured the first userid/passwd combinations to try are admin/changeme and root/changeme. ALOM's and ILOM's vary; some use one and some use the other.
The console output may be set to go elsewhere (other than the serial port) and you may need to reconfigure this. I recall fairly recently being involved in a thread on here regarding no console output which was solved by DukeNuke2. I don't remember what he said but search for it.

I've just found the thread that I was referring to above and it was started by you. Is this problem different to that one?????
I forgot I had that post. This is on a different server
That was on the SUN v250 server, and the only way it worked was when I re-installed the OS. I can not do a re install on this server.
There should be an "admin" account if this is a first time use. If the password is lost, you can reset it from Solaris with the scadm command. You might need to use to boot from DVD to reset the root password on your installation. I don't know if the scadm command is present from a standard Solaris boot/install medium.

Note - The ALOM serial port, labelled SERIAL MGT, is for server management only. If you need a general purpose serial port, use the serial port labeled 10101.
For more detailed informations you should check the Doc IDs 1012360.1 and 1010457.1 inside Oracle MOS.

I know there are ways to do it once I get into the system, but the thing is I can't even enter the system.
from SC> promt if I do
all I see is the empty black screen. My problem is to get into the system... from then on I think I can manage...
I got it figured out. Thanks!
Noticed that the console outputs are ttya and ttyb from the ok prompt.
"Ctrl + break on the keyboard after the OS bootup to get into the OK promt.
Also to get back into the console prompt from the ok prompt I had disconnect and wait a few mins for the connection to break.
Thanks you.

Dear All,
I hope you can help me.
I have a pair of E2900's I've inherited. Both running Solaris 9. Both have LOM> consoles. The problem I'm experiencing only occurs when connected to the /dev/console tty. Whenever I hit 'Enter' for a new line, I receive two new lines: -

:confused:Hi
This was installed on the Linux box a few weeks back by a guy that no longer works for us. All worked fine until last week. Now when we connect its just a blank screen with no icons.
I get a whole bunch of errors when starting the service too:

We are using software (Pegasys) which runs on SunOS 5.8 and reads images from a Philips nuclear camera. The software is designed to run from the console. I need to be able to capture the images it produces on the display. The caveat is that I cannot use the X Windows display because the X Server... (3 Replies)
