connecting 280r via serial port
I'm stuck here trying to connect to a 280R via serial port A to a laptop. I set hyperterminal up for 9600, 8, N, 1, but when I hit enter, nothing comes up in hyperterminal. There is no keyboard or mouse attached to the 280R, and it doesnt have a video card, so thats not an option.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

have you configured the RSC card? you should have 2 serial connectors at the back. one db25 and one RJ45. try the other

I dont know if the RSC card is configured. I really dont know anything about the server besides the fact that I need to reinstall the OS. I am unable to access any config info.

I'll try to get my hands on an RJ45 adapter.

Can you use the laptop with another server? Is there something using the serial port on the laptop? I have to disable my Palm Sync tool before I can make a serial connection to my Sun box.

I got my hands on an RJ45 adapter and it worked for a minute and then it stopped responding. I spent enough time trying to get it to work, so finally I swapped out a video card from another server.
