CRON Issue

Hello, I am running Solaris 8. I have set a cron job that runs every couple hours. If I run the script manually, it runs just fine (logged in as root). The cron however will not run. It is producing an rc=1 error. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

You havent searched much our forums, for you would have found many threads identical to yours....
If you have not an environment issue then you will have to give us more information
For environment look e.g. at suggested threads below...

It would help if you could post the script contents (editing out any site confidential stuff).

However, the common pitfalls are:

1. The cron job won't know about any environment stuff (eg, variables set) of the interactive login. Depending on your selected shell this would be, for example, .profile

So you need to set these at the start of the script instead.

2. The cron job won't (necessarily) know about relative pathnames (eg, ./execfile) and home directories. So you may need to use absolute pathnames instead.

Those are the two most common pitfalls. The job should inherit the access rights of the user under which it is cron'd however.

Hope that helps.

CRON
0 0,6,12,18 * * * /usr/local/dti/interfaces/planexport/pphplanexp.sh

PPHPLANEXP.sh
#!/usr/sh
cd /usr/local/dti/interfaces/planexport
perl pphplanexp.pl -e PD

again, this will run fine if at the #sh pphplanexport.sh

Thanks for the help.

The issue is you are telling the OS to run /usr/sh as shell, but this file doesn't exist.

Use
Code:
#!/bin/sh

instead.

The shebang is rightly ignored when you run the command as an sh argument.
