Forgotten command for new hardware

Hi,
I'm just filling in while our UNIX sysadmin is on vacation this week, I need to plug in a tape drive that he uses and have the unix server see it. (It sees it after a reboot, but I know there must be a command to make the unix box see the tape drive that we just re-plugged into it without having to reboot).

I have the root credentials if necessary.

It is SunOS 5.8

Thanks!!!

/usr/sbin/devfsadm

This will recreate the links in /dev/.
