NAS drive (WD My Book Live) via Solaris

Anyone ever done this?

Is it even possible to mount the remote NAS drive under Solaris?

Why not? What would be the problem? But clearly this depends on how the NAS drive is presented to the OS.

Yes, it can be done. I do recall working with some colleagues to get this to work.

They were managing the WD box and gave it an IP address and published a NFS mount.

I ran "showmount" to see the NFS share(s) available on the IP address and the directory path was not what was expected. However, with that information I was able to issue a mount command from Solaris specifying the IP address and mountable directory. It worked.

Sorry I can't be more specific. Hope that helps.

Oh, and another thing is I think we had to specify the NFS version (2,3, or 4.....try them all if necessary) on the mount command to be compatible with the WD.

And one more thing.....you may need to enable NFS on the WD......

Well, I can ping the NAS now but showmount <IP> gives nothing at all.

Its remote from me but they tell me its been set up with share called public.
Gonna check that NFS is enabled.

Yes, it needs to be a NFS handle. A Windoze share is no good.

Tell them you need a NFS share without (initally, at least) any security (no userid/password) set.

A "showmount <ip>" should then be able to see it.

perhaps you could also 'ftp mount' it. but that's unsecure.

Just use Solaris automounter:
Code:
cd /net/nas-ip/nfs/share

replace nas-ip by the NAS IP address and share by the share name.
