so this sounds great. Are there any online resources that do a good job explaining how to install Solaris 10 with Windows XP to make a dual boot machine?

also, are there open source communities/repositories that support development of software Freely distributable for the Solaris OS?

So how can there be a single solaris 10 version for both x86 and 64 bit arch?
I thought the 64 bit arch used different addressing so I am not quite sure if there is a 32bit pc version for windows users?
it belongs on your cpu type which kernel is loaded. if you are using a 64bit cpu then the 64bit kernel and libararies are installed, if you use a 32bit cpu then........
the most binaries under solaris are still 32bit binaries to provide a better compatibility. in any way solaris provides a native performance on sparc and opteron systems to 32bit applications. (in a short way: a 32bit appl only get the 32 register to use, not like on a itanium or powerpc system which need a co-processor for that purpose) if you really need 64bit everywhere feel free to recompile the opensource programms using the "new" 3.4 gcc which can produce 64bit code... (-m64) ;-)
