Solaris 10 missing /cdrom/cdrom0/

Good day everyone,

I am trying to install some new senmail patch on my Solaris 10 system.

I know the cdrom for my CP3260 blade servers in my rack worked for the last patches installed. However, when I went to copy from the .tar file from the cdrom to the /tmp. I received an error cannot access /cdrom/cdrom0/filname.tar

I checked the cdrom drive which is a USB plugin that must be moved between blades and I have power and can open it to put the cd in it and it spins all good indicators my drive is working.

I checked the /cdrom and found that there is no existing /cdrom/cdrom0 this directory is not there. Following the load plan for this systems install the cdrom/cdrom0 is normally there....

I am a noob ...how do I get this back? Are there files in there I need to make the CD ROM work or can I just make the missing directory.

Also I checked /dev and /devices for a CDROM entry I did not find one.

What can I do the get this CDROM drive running?Smilie

I read your post and all kinds of things come to mind.

This is a USB CDROM so "removable media" comes to mind.

If you "rmformat -l" (both with the CDROM connected and disconnected to compare) can you see the device name? eg. c3t0d0 ??

Are you sure the CDROM media is the correct format for SUN?

If you can get a device name then you could try and "mount" that device like you would mount any other filesystem.

Also, try any of the above with volume management turned on and turned off.

Let's see what other replies say.

As suggested, "rmformat -l" will let you know if the system can see the drive or not. If yes, then check if autofs service online:

Code:
svcs svc:/system/filesystem/autofs:default

If that's online, make sure /etc/auto_master file has correct entry for the cdrom.

However, mounting cdrom should automatically be taken care of by volume manager. If svc:/system/filesystem/rmvolmgr:default service is online, check the log located at: /var/svc/log/system-filesystem-rmvolmgr:default.log
See if there's any error or not.

Hope this helps!
