There is no difference between a zone and a container.

To create a zone try;

Code:
zonecfg -z zonename create

Hi.

I don't know if it a semantic issue or not, but the author of Solaris Containers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia writes:
Quote:
A Solaris Container is the combination of system resource controls and the boundary separation provided by zones.
I think the OP probably should have searched for answers to factual questions with Google and Wikipedia ... cheers, drl

Hello,
A zone is a from of virulation. a container is a way of controlling system resources. Most of the time a zones are used to divide up resources like a container. A conatiner can contain more then one zone.
I would look at the Solaris documentation on the Oracle website. There is a guide on the topic.
I hope this helps.

Actually the Oracle Definition is:-

"Oracle Solaris Containers consist of two parts - Oracle Solaris Zones and resource management. Oracle Solaris Zones partitioning technology is the mechanism for isolating applications within Oracle Solaris Containers that are then allocated resources with resource management software and utilities. Although the two parts are distinct, an Oracle Solaris Container must include both. In other words, a zone without resource management is not an Oracle Container and vice versa."

Although it it possible to have multiple zones in a container, speaking to some one from Oracle or Fujitsu is likely to elicit the original response.

In one of the Fujitsu manuals (I think the M5000 one) it does actually say that the terms are interchangeable.

Regards

Dave
