Solaris

Hello Team,


I am new to Sun Solaris. I badly need some help, how to install solaris sparc 8 on simics 3.0.31. I am using my Acer laptop with 320 GB HD, 8 GB of RAM, Intel Core i5 processor 430M. Windows 7 already installed on it.
1.Can i make Dual partions on this laptop with Win7 and Solaris SPARC ?
2.Can i install simics 3.0.31 inside windows and then install the solaris sparc on it? Please describe the steps how to for this? specify the HD size allocation for this?

if u wnt to use solaris on virtual machine then install vmware on windows............

you will need solaris for x86, not for sparc..

a quick and easier way is to use Oracle VM for windows, quite slick without lots of overhead from VMware..

you can run SPARC Solaris 8 or 9 in qemu on x86.
but you can't run version 10 yet because its 64bit.

Thanks a lot for your Valuable Responses. Actually I am Building a Lab on My PC.
The Requires SIMICS emulator and Sun Solaris SPARC. I am using win 7 on my PC.
I installed simics on PC but i am aware to install sun Solaris 8 in SIMICS emulator.
I have downloaded the sun solaris 8 images from internet. All of these are iso Images.
Problem is I dont know how to run a script on simics. I am very much confused about installing "sol-8-hw4-install-sparc.iso" on simics. Do i need to make bootable disk for this image using CD-ROM ? Please suggest me. I am eagerly waiting for your valuable responses.

I think you should use:
boot disk2:d -vb

to boot from cd iso. you'll also need a virtual hdd image, but I don't know how to make one in that simics thing. what you might also need is bios - OpenBoot PROM (OBP). doubt it comes with simics.

Interesting. I was not aware that Solaris 8 or 9 would actually run on QEMU, only that they could be booted in a minimal mode.

Got a pointer to where I can find the appropriate information?
