Moving Solaris 9 Host to new SAN.

Hi All,

Hopefully you can answer my question.
We are about to move to a new Fibre Channel infrastructure going from Cisco to Brocade switches. Amongst others, we have a number of Solaris 9 hosts which connect to our EVA5000 and EVA8100 array's.
What is involved in moving the Solaris hosts to the new SAN? When the hosts and storage are moved to the new switches will Solaris still see its LUN's on the EVA's or will the HW path change?

Any advice or experiences with this would be much appreciated.

Solaris won't see its LUNs after you change SAN switches.

You need to create zones on the Brocade switches to connect any arrays and Solaris systems.

Thanks for your reply.
All the zoning will remain the same.
I'm just wondering if the device files for the disks will change due to the switches being replaced.

I think that these infrastructure change not affect the HW paths, however if you can say more data

- HBA model
- Drivers used (HBA native or San Foundation drivers)
- method of disk administration (SVM, VXVM)
- Cluster installed (Sun Cluster, VCS)

basically, if youy disks are the strcuture

c4t50600e0000000007ed0

the target component is based in the WWN of Array Port, and device component is based in LUN number assigned in the array.

The Switch change not affect this components

NOTE: if your new switch have 8Gbps ports and your HBA are to 2/4 Gbps I suggest read the brocade recommendation about of "fillword modes"
