Did you set your DNS entries in /etc/resolv.conf?

Make a DNS entry in /etc/resolv.conf and make sure you have "dns" word in the /etc/nsswitch.conf next to "hosts" entry.

hosts: dns files

You can also add the hosts to the /etc/hosts file.
