Solaris 2.6 looking for ARP/RARP packet

Hi Everybody Smilie This is my first post concerning Solaris 2.6 trying to boot on a Tadpole SparcBook 3. I bought the laptop from somebody who configured it for his network. For the moment I want it as a non-networked standalone machine, or at least have that option.

On trying to boot I get an endless 'Timeout waiting for ARP/RARP packet' error message, due to it being away from it's original network. I get this if an ethernet cable is plugged in too! I know later Solaris versions have dealt with this problem and booting continues if the network is not found after a time Smilie.

I've tried on recommendation an AUI loop-back device, but still the error message Smilie. Any help will be much appreciated please as it's a quirk that doesn't bode well for a machine that's meant to be portable. Although to be fair the original owner upgraded to 2.6 from the original Tadpole supplied Solaris OS version and bundled software. He said he mainly used the machine as a home terminal.
Thank you Smilie

Hi, In reply to my own post I seem to have found a partial answer, though have possibly found more gremlins.

Using 'setenv diag-device disk' from the OK prompt changes the parameter from the default 'net' thus allowing boot. It seems though my EEPROM battery in the SparcBook is possibly going as my time and date need setting, and I'm unable to log in to CDE with what I'm assured is the password Smilie. Any comments by readers on these two issues would be appreciated.Smilie
