jumpstart and man pages

I've set up a jumpstart server on a Ultra 1 with 2 external 9GB hard drives. Below is the contents of the rules.ok file:

Jserver# more rules.ok
hostname jumpme - host_class -
# version=2 checksum=2852

Below is the contents of the profile that I'm using for the test workstation:

Jserver# more host_class

install_type initial_install
system_type standalone
partitioning default
cluster SUNWCall

I'm able to do a jumpstart to a test workstation, an old Sparc 5 with a 2GB internal disk.

The jumpstart completes ok, but when I log onto the workstation and do a “man ls” for example, I get the message “no manual entry for ls”. I've check the /var/sadm/install_data/install_log file, and it shows that SUNWman is part of the group under the “Solaris 8 packages fully installed” listing. However, when I look at the /usr/share/man directory, I see only the man1, man2, man5 subdirectories, and no sman subdirectories.

Here is what the /usr/share/man directory looks like on my jumpstart test workstation:

jumpme% ls
man1 man3 man5

And here is what the /usr/share/man directory looks like on my jumpstart server:

Jserver# ls
entities sman3aio sman3krb sman3proc sman3xcurses man.cf sman3bsm sman3kstat sman3rac sman3xfn man1 sman3c sman3kvm sman3resolv sman3xnet man1m sman3cfgadm sman3layout sman3rpc sman4
man3 sman3cpc sman3ldap sman3rt sman4b man5 sman3curses sman3lib sman3sched sman5 man7d sman3devid sman3libucb sman3sec sman6 manl sman3devinfo sman3m sman3secdb sman7
mann sman3dl sman3mail sman3slp sman7d sman1 sman3dmi sman3malloc sman3snmp sman7fs sman1b sman3door sman3mp sman3socket sman7i sman1c sman3elf sman3nsl sman3sysevent sman7m
sman1f sman3exacct sman3nvpair sman3thr sman7p sman1m sman3ext sman3pam sman3tnf sman9 sman1s sman3gen sman3picl sman3ucb sman9e sman2 sman3gss sman3picltree sman3volmgt sman9f
sman3 sman3head sman3plot sman3wsreg sman9s

So...What am I missing/doing wrong?

Thanks in advance..

That shouldn´t be normally ... Smilie

Your Ultra1 is a sun4u class machine and the sparcstation is a sun4m ...But that shouldn´t matter at all...

Re-"install" the Solaris Distribution to your harddisk. maybe something wicked happend.

Give it a try

Check the package with pkginfo -l SUNWman on your Sparc 5 - see if it shows as completely installed (post # of files). Then check your jumpstart that it is indeed doing a full install with OEM support (make sure the profile you think it's using IS the profile it's using)

It's been solved. When I first set up the jumpstart directory, I copied the first cd, but not the second cd. D'OH!! I copied the second cd last night, ran the jumpstart again and now the man pages work. Smilie
