Solaris

when I try to enter the value 424 for "data sectors/track" in format menu, it returns this error:
`424' is out of range.

is that hard drive parameter important? what to enter?

Aren't those datas specified on the technical specification of your hard drive ?

perhaps. but why would solaris need them?

it seems that maximum number of sectors per track is 256.
is that some limit in Solaris 8?

drive is 70Gb. it already has been labeled with much higher number of sectors per track than 256. I just cant use that value again.

it has factory label SUN72G (424 sectors per track). I am trying to reduce total number of cylinders.

edit: I made some progress by increasing the number-of-heads while decreasing sectors-per-track, so that multiply product is the same. Still, it results in totaly wrong partition table..

edit2: it seems the problem was in Solaris8, because Solaris9 reports no error.
