root rlogin on sunos 5.9
Hi folks,

Lately, i was asked to install some software on a sunos 5.9. The problem is that i cannot setup the r services for the installation to work properly : rlogin/rsh root without password.

It keeps on bumping me login incorrect when i try to rlogin/rsh it with root ...

I wonder why my other sunos 5.8 works great with rlogin/rsh root without passwd


Thanks for any idea!
PS: CONSOLE parameter on default/login is commented

The system you are coming from has to be in the /etc/hosts of the system you are going to. Then set up /etc/hosts.equiv to access for that system.

Actually, hosts.equiv is supposed to be ignored if the uid of the target user is 0. For root, you should need a .rhosts files in root's home directory.

Thanks guys, but i did & checked and re-checked what you said with no success...

Although the rcp seems to work, the rlogin and rsh did not!
I'm connecting from an aix 4.3.3

I have an old (I mean "dinosaur old") server that is running SunOS 4.1xxx. I need to allow root login ONLY on the console. I've looked in /etc/default for the login file for the "console=/dev/console" parameter is, but there's no 'default" dir in /etc. Can someone help? Thanks (2 Replies)
