9th field in shadow file

Hi experts,

Can somebody explain, what is 9th field in /etc/shadow ? The last digit -

But do we know, why these flags are there in it ? I do not know, what is its significance and will it impact if I remove flag ?

It's true, that explanation is not exactly clean....
Maybe easy explanation will be this (I suppose that it will be valid also for Sol 10).
