I think your time would have been better spent learning how to use tar than finding a sharred version of it.

try this command ...........tar -xvf xampp-linux-1.7.4.tar /opt

try this one ..tar -xvf xampp-libux-1.7.4.tar /opt

His tar doesn't have -x, /opt/ doesn't do what you think it does, and the correct instructions are already in this thread anyway.
