MAXSYMLINKS error

SunOS XXXXX 5.10 Generic_142900-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise

When I issue this command I am getting the following error.
:/TIERS/batch/ftp/receive/MBIC]find /TIERS/batch/ftp/receive/CHIP -follow -type f -name P203501172011.dat -print
find: stat() error /TIERS/batch/ftp/receive/CHIP/MBIC/MBIC

This is what is configured.
Code:
#define MAXSYMLINKS     20

We have a daemon that runs and looks for a file in the softlinked file as stated above. The daemon issues the stated command but fails with the error as described. Do I only need to increase the MAXSYMLINKS or is this just a symtom of a greater issue?

Thanks in advance

file MBIC is linked to /CHIP/MBIC. Files are placed via FTP in /CHIP/MBIC. The daemon tries to find the files using the link through /TIERS/batch/ftp/receive/MBIC. Could this error be caused by a link that appears to be linked to itself? Please helppppp

...most likely - either a link to itself or a link back to a parent directory.

Start at the root directory to inspect every part of the pathname. If it is a symbolic link, check the target until you find the problematic link.

In the working directory, /TIERS/batch/ftp/receive , I see symbolic links MBIC that points to /CHIP/MBIC and symlink CHIP that points to /CHIP. When the find command is issued with -follow option against MBIC the error is produced. My thinking is to use a different name for the symlink. But, the -follow option is taking the find outside of the current hierarchy where the command was initiated /TIERS/batch/ftp/receive/MBIC which is linked to /CHIP/MBIC.
