Help with Booting procedure

Hello guys, I am a newbie to solaris 10. Recently I was going through booting procedure of solaris 10 on sparc machines, there I was not clear with kernel phase because I read like /etc/system file is read by kernel even before root filesystem is loaded, How is it possible??

Please Help me out with this..

Hmm. Don't think so. My understanding w.r.t. SPARC platforms in this area of the boot process is as follows:

- The secondary boot program, /platform/`arch -k`/ufsboot loads the kernel image files.
- The kernel is loaded and run. Kernel banner is displayed.
- The kernel initializes itself and begins loading modules, reading files using ufsboot until it has loaded enough modules to mount the root filesystem itself.
- ufsboot is unmapped and the kernel uses its own drivers.
- The kernel reads /etc/system and the system parameters are set.

What's the link to the doc you are referencing, praveen? I'd like to read a concise sparc boot procedure. Thanks.
