how to expand root partition size?
Dear All
For installing an application that will seat under /opt , I need to increase my root partition size (/c0t0d0s0) . Can you please let me know how can I increase this partition size?

it's not possible without reformating the drive. the best way would be a new drive and "liveupgrade" to copy the old drive to the new drive with the reformated layout.

Sorry. You mean there is no way without losing existing data on it ?

Using ZFS would likely have prevent this problem to show up. Anyway, the simpler solution would be to relocate /opt outside /. Otherwise, depending on your slice layout, expanding the root partition might be doable although not simple.

Thank you very much for your help. I tried to relocate the /opt and it solved my problem.

Sorry. Can you please let me know if solaris26 can handle files over 2GB size?

I disagree with you as if the partition is formatted with LVM then you might increase the size of root partition.
Please read about LVM to increase the root partition(This will only work if the partition were formatted using LVM )

LVM is afaik Linux specific but in any case, UFS filesystems can be expanded regardless of their devices being backed by a volume manager or not.
