Solaris 10 x86: Two sendmail processes, why?

Dear all,
after allowing remote sendmail connections by setting the value of the local_only to 'false' ie

#svccfg -s sendmail setprop config/local_only=false
#svcadm refresh sendmail

we have TWO sendmail processes called 'sendmail -Ac -q15m' and 'sendmail -bd -q15m'.
For what reason I mean which mailer config file (sendmail.cf, submit.cf, local.cf) is used for
sending mail out of this Solaris 10 5/09 x86 box?

THX for any hint!

this is not particular to Solaris-x86 only . on my SPARC system its also being used in a similar fashion.

from `man sendmail`

-Ac Uses submit.cf even if the operation mode does not
indicate an initial mail submission.

-bd Runs as a daemon in the background, waiting for incom-
ing SMTP connections.

I know that Sun make s a version of Solaris for Sparc platforms and also an x86 (Intel/AMD) release of Solaris. Can an application that runs on Solaris/Sparc also run on a PC running the x86 release of Solaris? Would a different release be required or any re-compling of the application? jim (1 Reply)
