FTP Server on Solaris

Hi,
For past couple of years I have managed FTP Server requirement in my org by configuring default ftp server that comes with Solaris.

I am evaluating new 3rd party ftp server that runs on Solaris/Linux.
I have zeroed down on jscape FTP server which works both on Solaris/Linux as per the top 5 FTP servers of 2010(thats what one article claims, the other 4 are Windows based).
I am looking forward to understand on whats the pros and cons of hosting FTP server via default SUN Solaris and 3rd party.

Thanks,
KK

It would help if you explained what you find to be wrong with or lacking in the default Solaris ftp server.

One of the problem that I face is user complains of incomplete file transfers. Connection breaks, multiple loggin to transfer same files. Usually this happens if the file size is above 400MB and the user is comming via VPN or Internet.

I know this is more of an Network issue, but I dont have supporting logs to show that.
I have enabled features like
xferlog in ftpaccess.

However they are of not much help.

I am looking for enhanced logging features to address the concerns.

Thanks

Default Solaris is one of the best for TCP/IP.
Elapsed time is very important when transmitting large files with ftp because of idle connection timeouts. To transmit 500 Mb over a 1 Mbit/sec clean connection is going to take at least an hour. A 1-hour or 2-hour timeout with VPN software is not at all unusual.
Timeouts can be at source or destination. I guess that you only have control over the destination.
IMHO the public Internet is unsuitatable for transmitting files of this size (400 Mb+) unless there is a very fast Internet connection (say 10 Mbits/sec+) point-to-point.
Have you considered leased VPN tunnels?
