It probably won't be usefull but this is FYI: the error counters are reseted upon reboot / power off etc ... was your iostat -En ran before or after the fsck?

I ran an fsck but did not run an iostat. It was a few days ago and I can't recall whether I got any errors from the fsck....almost sure I did. I'm trying to boot from the cdrom again but this too is now giving me issues! Smilie I've asked the on-site technician to check the cdrom drive for me and I'm waiting to hear from him

Just an update..
I just tried an upgrade install again after fixing those disk errors with fsck. Upgrade ran through successfully. System rebooted but came up with the same error :-(
