give me suggesstion regarding SVM and LVM
Dear All

Anyone tell me what is LVM and SVM. When we will configure
LVM. LVM is addition of disk means ie 100g HHD and 150g HDD becomes 250g HDD
(LVM) means then what is use of RAID 0 or RAID 0 is also called LVM ?. What
is the cmd to configure LVM...... HOw it has been confiure?"

what google says about LVM and SVM?

LVM stands for Logical volume manager which is used in Redhat Enterprise Linux to avoid limitations of the usual hard disk partitions.

SVM stands for Sun Volume manager which is used in sun solaris to avoid the limitations of the hard disk slices. It will support raid configuration where LVM is not.

By using these volume managers, we can create, shrink and expand a filesystem while it is in use. Where a normal filesystem in solaris and linux does not support of shrinking and expanding filesystems online if it is not under the control of volume managers. Fault tolerance and recovery factor is also high.

Hello, I recently patched my Solaris 10 box and found out that few of the apps are not working. Fortunately, I had detached the mirroring prior to patching, so I just booted into my secondary disk and found that my apps are working.... The problem is this was way back in last month....see...
