I can boot normally with the pre-installed Solaris 10 ( Solaris 10 3/05 s10_74L2a SPARC) and the CD gets detected at bootup:

>> Checking that an ATAPI device is attached.
>> ATAPI device responds to Identify Packet Device Command
>> Removable ATAPI Model: TSSTcorpDVD-ROM TS-L462C

However, from the OS I cannot mount the CD since I am missing the /dev/sr* device, but the OS should have nothing to do at the initial boot..

boot to single user mode from dvd and run the command "raidctl -l" from the prompt and post the output. also run "format -e" and check the the disk label for your devices.

The whole problem is that I cannot boot from a DVD. The server is not using raid.

Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package

Can't mount root

Evaluating:

very strange, can you swap the dvd drive with another server? (afair it is a cold swap operation!)

I am just about to change the cd-rom but decided to give it one more try. I've burned the DVD with K3b and this time it worked...
Very strange, the other CDs were burned with cdrecord as well. I'll try to find what's different with K3b.

Thanks for the help!
