one more question
Suppose i have a file with a line like this:
Sep 2 2007 /opt/ctmagent/ctm/sysout/fvaauditlos.LOG_00da1v_00001

how can i write a command which prints as below:
Sep 2 2007 fvaauditlos.LOG_00da1v_00001

sed 's/\/.*\///' file

This code actually deletes everything between the slashes, including themselves.

Unis scripting problems
Hi,
in my home directory i have so many files. i want to search for a file,
for example A* and want to get the the last file of the result and then want to search for a pattern in that file.
Can u suggest how can i write a command which gives the desired o/p
