[REQ] tool analyzer for /var/adm/messages

hi all,
i am trying to find a tool to analyze the var/adm/messages.
is there any?

what exactly are you looking for ?

awk and grep are most likely your friends here...

post some requirements / steps you have taken / where you are stuck and I'm sure you'll get some assistance.

dmesg is right command , also you have a Dtrace , and grep , egrep commands .

actually I am looking for 3rd party tool to analyze the messages, it gives the critical, medium and low priority for the errors and it gives a solutions & suggestions.
I have seen one tool like this. the ppl are getting the /var/adm/messages and upload it to this tool and they can analyze the messages (dependent to the messages ID)

why don't you simply ask where the other pepole got the tool they are using?

Then Sawmill , it runs on every OS , it has a simple GUI and CLI interface .

The /var/adm/messages in Solaris seem to log more system messages/errors compared to /var/log/messages in Linux. I checked the log level in Linux and they seem OK. Is there any other log file that contains the messages or is it just that Linux doesn't log great many things? (2 Replies)
