No mounting in single user mode

Hey all!

I recently aquired a Sun V210 running Solaris 10. I got past the firmware password, and now I'm trying to get past the root password. I booted directly into single user mode from the ok prompt "boot cdrom -s"

Once in.. every time I try to mount the harddrive "mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a" is says that the device is mounted. i try to unmount, it says it's busy. It never shows up in mnttab or vfstab. I tried a fsck and here are the results:
Code:
# fsck -y /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0
** /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (NO WRITE)
BAD SUPERBLOCK AT BLOCK 16: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG

LOOK FOR ALTERNATE SUPERBLOCKS WITH MKFS? no

LOOK FOR ALTERNATE SUPERBLOCKS WITH NEWFS? no

SEARCH FOR ALTERNATE SUPERBLOCK FAILED.

USE GENERIC SUPERBLOCK FROM MKFS? no

USE GENERIC SUPERBLOCK FROM NEWFS? no

SEARCH FOR ALTERNATE SUPERBLOCKS FAILED. YOU MUST USE THE -o b OPTION
TO FSCK TO SPECIFY THE LOCATION OF A VALID ALTERNATE SUPERBLOCK TO
SUPPLY NEEDED INFORMATION; SEE fsck(1M).

# fsck -o b=16 /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0
Alternate super block location: 16.
** /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (NO WRITE)
BAD SUPERBLOCK AT BLOCK 16: MAGIC NUMBER WRONG

Any jabs on how to get this drive mounted?

Thank you and I look forward to being an active member on this forum. Smilie

You are corrupting your drive..! fsck should be done on raw device /dev/rdsk not the logical device /dev/dsk.
And by the way what is df -k and echo |format
?
make sure you're in /root directory then you give your mount /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 /mnt

Check with the mount command that where the root disk is mounted.

Hi,

First try to find out the backup super block by giving command "newfs -N /dev/rdsk/cxtxdxsx" , which will show the filesystem parameters & backup super blocks. Then try executing the command "fsck -o b=xxxxx /dev/rdsk/cxtxdxsx " .

This filesystem is already mounted, why do you want to mount it again ??
Running fsck on a mounted filesystem will do nothing but corrupt it.

Booting off a CD is always kind of a single user mode state. Anyway, if you read the first posting, you can see this:

Solaris doesn't display these messages without a reason.
