rlogin on solaris 5.8

i have two identical Solaris 5.8 machines,
on one machine I can rlogin, on the other machine I cannot, I can only telnet. Does anyone know why?

FYI
/etc/default/login

#CONSOLE=/dev/console

this is indentical on both.....

yeah i did a search first, as always, and nothing came up, like my situation, thanks for the tips, ill check rhosts, but i doubt that is the issue here, any other ideas

It's hard to diagnose a problem when you don't give details. Are you getting an error, a connection refused, host unknown, or nothing at all?

sorry, here are the details

rlogin hostname
hostname.domain.com: Connection refused

This is what I get on one server
Why is this?
Telent lets me in fine

do you have this entry in your /etc/inetd.conf ?

# RLOGIND - rlogin daemon (BSD protocols)
login stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/in.rlogind in.rlogind

On the server i can rlogin into, I have this

login stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/in.rlogind in.rlogind

On the server I cannot I dont have this entry at all

login stream tcp6 nowait root /usr/sbin/in.rlogind in.rlogind

I guess that is it, now to figure out why there different. thanks man!

From any computer on our network when you rlogin into one machine (this only happens on this machine) it'll hang for about 3 minutes before loggin into that machine. If your sick of waiting you can do a <ctrl> C and then it'll rlogin into the machine it is meant to BUT it wont keep the shell... (1 Reply)
