Solaris JumpStart Image on Floppy?
I was wondering if there was a Solaris JumpStart image small enough to fit on a floppy. The computer I want to JumpStart doesn't have a CD drive. If so, where could I download it?

you can install with usb... some weeks ago i build a solaris install usb drive. was easy to do and works fine. i hope your machine has usb?!

I think for JumpStart installation you must have at least 5 GB available for dumping image of Solaris 10 DVD , but you can install Solaris through network . Just you need to create a boot and Install server Smilie

I have the server, but don't I need a disk image to get the computer to look at the network to install from? I'm looking for one that can fit on a floppy.

what kind of hardware do you have? if it is a sun sparc, you can boot directly over network. if it is a x86 you'll need a pxe boot enabled nic to boot over network.

An install server can provide installation services by sharing a spooled
image on a local disk. When you spool the Solaris Operating System
image from CD-ROM or DVD, the result is a directory that contains the
boot image and the installation image:


Here are the rules

1. Spool the operating system image.
2. Edit the sysidcfg file.
3. Edit the rules and profile files.
4. Run the check script.
5. Run the add_install_client script.
6. Boot the client.

Hello, I did this perfectly fine with S10Update3. But with S10Update4 something is strange a) For some reason when I am moving to Update 4, it keeps prompting for name service etc etc. But this goes away if I give nfs4_domain=dynamic in the sysidcfg file.
