I am fairly (re)new to Solaris 10. In fact I was even quite good at it, but that was about 10 years ago, so now I am back to beginner status
I installed a new machine with an internal 16port RAID attached to an Areca 1260 controller. Also attached is an external SCSI-Raid.
The raid has three volume sets of each 2TB in size (some drives are not in use)
I managed to load the driver at the installation process (which was kind of not so really funny) and installed Solaris in a 10G partition inside the first volume set.
Now, the system is working fine, but when I try to create a new ZFS holding the other partitions, which are supposed to form a 12T filesystem including the three volume sets internal plus the external, it does not show the other volume sets:
The last one is the first volume set with Solaris installed on. But where are c7t0d1 and so on? Am I missing something?
PS: I just changed the SCSI IDs for the second and third volume set and now they are recognized, but not as disks:
Good? Bad? Somewhere between?
Second, I cannot create a new partition in the volume set with solaris running on. Can't that be avoided, as I do not want to alter the active partition, merely creating a new one?
Yes dear, but I have hardware raid-controllers in those boxes, so I don't need no zfs-software-raid
You probably might reconsider that. The fact you have hw raid controllers doesn't necessarily means using them is wise. ZFS direct disk handling is generally viewed as a better solution than hardware raid.
Anyway, how many physical disks are available and what is their size ?
Hello Guys,

Hello everyone,
I just read that while creating a logical volume(LV) we can choose the region of the physical volume (PV) in which the LV should be created.

Can anyone help me understand the utility... (11 Replies)

Hello,
I have logical volume group of 50GB, in which I have 2 logical volumes, LogVol01 and LogVol02, both are of 10GB.
If I extend LogVol01 further by 10GB, then it keeps the extended copy after logical volume 2. I want to know where it keeps this information
