We have a very old sun solaris ultra spac system (about 14 years old). We have information stored on it that we reference from time to time because our new software is lacking.
The system failed about a week ago and I had to do a hard boot to get it back up. It came up that time, but it failed again- again I had do do a hard boot to try to get it back up.

The boot process will not complete. I get a message on the terminal that says boot device: disk file and args

Is there a way to bypass this and complete the boot process?

use the "break" sequence for your hardware... if there is a keyboard attached, use "stop + a" to go to OBP. it would help if you tell us which hardware you use...

It is a Sun Ultra Enterprise 1 with an old Link terminal as the console. There are no model numbers on either. This was here long before I came.

As far as the break sequence, as far as I know it is ctl+c, thats not working. There is no 'stop' key on this keyboard. F5 says 'break' above it. I tried both but cant break out of the error message-- boot device: disk and args.

get a laptop with a software like putty for serial communication and use the break sequence from the software... i can not tell for sure... i use solaris on my laptop and the break sequence is something like "~." or "#." or "~#" for the older hardware...

If you have an old Sun keyboard and monitor around it might be easiest to hook them up (assuming it has a graphics card) and then do the stop+a. If you don't I would find the manual for your version of OBP on SunDocs as well as the manual for your terminal and figure out how you can send a "stop+a" to your machine.
